Master of Shambhavi Mudra Swami SriYukteswar Giri
Just before leaving the condo to catch the Amtrak train from Washington, DC to return to New York City, Baba Hariharananda paused in front of a photo of Swami SriYukteswar and said to me:
“Look at my Guruji, he is practicing “Shambavi Mudra”, his eyes are open but his whole brain is filled with light.”
Swami SriYukteswar was known as the master of “Shambavi Mudra”.
Practicing "Shambavi Mudra" deepens the awareness of the divine cosmic sound and formless vibration and helps quiet the mind and strengthens the power of concentration giving extreme mental focus and ability.
"Shambavi Mudra" also helps one "be in the world, but not in the world" by developing a deep inner gaze and pinpointed single minded focus"
Baba taught this "open eye meditation", reminding the students that:
"Kriya Yoga is a loving, gentle technique, no pain or strain, if you need to blink the eye, blink the eye."
With regular sincere practice, one will develop a "deep inner gaze" and the eyes will blink less and one can comfortably remain in "Shambhavi Mudra" longer and deeper and establish one's self in the inner transformation.
